TAJFUN SK Ljubljana wins the European Chess Club Cup for Women

Welcome to the European Chess Club Cup 2024!
As we dive into the recent European Chess Club Cup we are very excited to announce that TAJFUN SK Ljubljana emerged as the sole Winner of the 28th European Women’s Chess Club Cup after defeating the top-seeded duchess Cercle duchess de Monte-Carlo in the last round. The match finished with a 2.5-1.5 result, as three games concluded in a draw, and IM Olga Badelka (2430, TAJFUN SK Ljubljana) prevailed against IM Sarasadat Khademalsharieh (2478, Cercle d’Echecs de Monte-Carlo). Scoring 12 match points, TAJFUN SK Ljubljana was one match point ahead of the runner-ups.
Meet the incredible chess women from the team!
The SK TAJFUN women's team was comprised of five incredible women. Let's introduce each of them and you can also check out their individual FIDE profiles for a better understanding of their skills and perseverance.
Let's start from the bottom left corner with International Master Laura Unuk:
- Laura Unuk (born 9 November 1999) is a Slovenian player who holds the title of Woman Grandmaster and International Master. She has been twice world girls' champion in her age category and was the Slovenian women's champion in 2013. Unuk is the top female player in Slovenia.
Above Laura on the left, we introduce International Master Olga Badelka:
- Olga Badelka (Belarusian: Вольга Бадэлька, Russian: Ольга Баделько; born 8 July 20, who holds the FIDE title of International Master (IM, 2019). In 2021, she was on the team at the University of Missouri in the United States. As of 2022, Badelka now plays chess full-time.
Next to Olga on the right, we have Grandmaster Nana Dzagnidze:
- Nana Dzagnidze (Georgian: ნანა ძაგნიძე; born 1 January 1987) is a Georgian chess player. She was awarded the title of Grandmaster by FIDE in 2008. Dzagnidze was a member of the gold medal-winning Georgian chess team in the Women's Chess Olympiad in 2008 and European women's individual champion in 2017.
On Nana's right hand right-hand side, we have Grandmaster Zhu Jinen:
- Zhu Jiner (Chinese: 朱锦尔; pinyin: Zhū Jǐn'ěr; born 16 November 2002) is a Chinese player and Grandmaster (2023). In 2016, she won the World Youth Chess Championship in the G14 age category. In 2017, she was third in the Asian Zone 3.5 after Zhai Mo and Ni Shiqun and qualified for the Women's World Championship 2018.
In the right corner we have Women International Master Zala Urh:
- Zala Urh (born 15 April 2002 in Ljubljana ) is a Slovenian chess player. In February 2020, she received the title of Women's International Master (WIM). She achieved the standards for this at the 48th Bosna Tournament in Sarajevo in May 2018, at the 33rd Open in Pula, and at the U18 Women 's World Youth Championship in October 2019 in Mumbai.
